She is currently serving as chair of her division. She is part of the ESL faculty and has taught at several other ESL programs in Hawaii and Japan. Muriel has earned a BA from the University of San Francisco and a 5th Year Certificate and MA from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. In 1997, she was awarded the Regents' Medal for Excellence in Teaching. Muriel is the current Division Chair for Language Arts at HonCC.
Most important accomplishment has been working on the expansion of HonCC's ESL program with two other colleagues. Proud that the program can take a student from a low beginner's level to an advanced one and can accommodate special interest groups and intensive English students.
Much of her free time has been devoted to taking black and white photographs, which have been exhibited locally, on the Mainland and in Japan. A collection of her work was published in the Winter 1995 edition of "Manoa."
